Service Day at the Special Kids Summer Camp Carnival
Posted on August 14, 2012
This month a group of Thomas Nelson employees was blessed with the opportunity to go and serve at Camp Ability, a Special Kids summer camp. One of Thomas Nelson’s charitable partners, Special Kids, provided Thomas Nelson employees the chance to participate in the camp carnival. Volunteers helped with the various activity centers, so that the campers could participate in games, cookie decorating, face painting and more!
Ruthie Dean, Publicity Coordinator for Thomas Nelson, felt that “Working with Special Kids alongside my Nelson coworkers brought great joy! Seeing the kids’ faces light up as they scored a basket or had their faces painted made me proud to work for a company with a vision to inspire the world—starting with the kids right down the road. “
Throughout the day, volunteers were touched by the fact that what might be a seemingly small act of service meant so much to the children that participated. As Nubia Echevarria, Manager of Product Development, reflected, “What a fun-filled day it was volunteering for Special Kids! They're an amazing organization doing extraordinary things. Decorating cookies with the kids was a blast – not sure who had more fun; me or them.”
